Bill Sommerfeldt had a dream. His dream was to some day have his own meat market.
So after working in someone else's butcher shoes all his life, in 1963 he rented a vacant
building on the corner of County Road C and Highway 61. Angus Meat Market was born.
At 60 years of age, Bill worked as a one man shop for the first year. Two years
later Bill had two full time and two part time employees. One of those part time
helpers was Bill's 10 year old grandson, Rick. Rick's father, Len, kept the books
for his father-in-law, as he was an accountant by trade. Angus Meat Market continued
to grow when in 1969 Bill moved his shop to a new building just one block north,
to its current location. By 1973, father & son, Len & Rick Atzmiller joined Bill
as full timers in the family business.
Len and Rick took the reigns when Bill retired in 1975. Since his father's retirement
in 1989, Rick has run the business just as his grandfather would. With his sons
Nick and Eric, and long time employees Tim & Shawn, Angus Meat Market is still an
old fashioned meat market. Rick and his crew give personalized service and great
products every day. Four generations strong, Angus Meat Market looks forward to
serving you!
